The ACTCHEM™ RANGE of abrasion resistant monolithic refractories was developed in collaboration with a major South African petrochemical Company to replace the standard phosphate bonded refractory used internationally in severe abrasion applications in the petrochemical industry. It is now manufactured under license in the USA and in Europe, as well as here in South Africa and has been approved for installation by over 15 Petrochemical Plant End Users as well as Engineering Companies and Fabricators worldwide.
Abrasion tests at the petrochemical company's research laboratory indicated that ACTCHEM 90™ had 3 to 4 times the abrasion resistance of the standard phosphate bonded refractory at a service temperature of 350˚C.
The initial service trials commenced in early 1990 and have repeatedly confirmed the multiple increase in abrasion resistance compared to the standard phosphate bonded refractory. Laboratory tests by C&H Laboratories using a modified ASTM procedure have shown that the ACTCHEM™ range is insensitive to water additions over a wide range. Good quality site installations are thereby easily achievable.
ACTCHEM™ is suitable for use in both typical FCCU applications as well as lower temperature applications such as cyclones.
